Choosing the Right Drywall Contractor in Vancouver

Choosing the right contractor is more than just finding the cheapest option – you need to consider all the factors to find the one that best suits your needs and budget.
-
Get proper comparative estimates: Be inquisitive about your contractor's processes. This will help you compare prices, services, and the quality of the work you will get more accurately.
-
Hire local, licensed contractors when possible: Local contractors are more straightforward to contact and are more likely to be familiar with the building codes in your area. You should also look for contractors with a physical address rather than door-to-door contractors.
-
Check their past work: Review testimonials and previous projects to understand their quality. Ask other contractors if they are familiar with the companies you are considering.
-
Take your time: This is a big decision, and you shouldn't rush into it. Take your time to ensure you find the contractor who suits your needs.

How to Maintain Your Drywall: Tips from Professional Drywall Contractors in Vancouver

Maintaining drywall is essential for preserving a building's structural integrity and aesthetics. Regular care helps prevent costly repairs and ensures that walls remain in good condition. The Mud Slinger provides professional drywall services in Vancouver, and our team offers the following guidance on proper drywall maintenance. Call us today for more information.
Regular Cleaning and Care
Dust and dirt can accumulate on drywall surfaces, leading to discolouration and wear. To maintain clean walls:
-
Use a soft cloth or a duster to remove dust regularly.
-
Use a damp (not wet) cloth with mild detergent for deeper cleaning.
-
Avoid abrasive cleaners or excessive moisture, which can damage the drywall surface.
Preventing and Addressing Moisture Damage
Moisture is one of the primary causes of drywall deterioration. To prevent water-related issues:
-
Ensure proper ventilation in high-humidity areas such as bathrooms and kitchens.
-
Repair plumbing leaks promptly to prevent water damage behind walls.
-
Use moisture-resistant drywall in areas prone to damp conditions.
Handling Minor Damage Promptly
Minor dents and holes can occur due to furniture impact or daily use. These should be addressed quickly to prevent further damage:
-
Fill minor holes with a lightweight spackling compound and smooth the surface before repainting.
-
For larger dents, use a drywall patch kit for effective repairs.
-
Sand repaired areas lightly and apply matching paint to maintain consistency.

Top Drywall Problems and How Professional Drywall Contractors Fix Them
Drywall can develop various issues over time. Professional drywall contractors in Vancouver, such as The Mud Slinger, have the expertise to address these problems efficiently.
Cracks in Drywall
Cracks may appear due to settling foundations, temperature fluctuations, or improper installation. To repair cracks:
-
Small cracks are typically fixed using joint compound and reinforcement tape.
-
Larger or recurring cracks may require a professional assessment to address underlying structural concerns.
-
Proper finishing techniques, including sanding and repainting, ensure a seamless repair.
Nail and Screw Pops
Nail or screw pops occur when fasteners loosen from wall studs, creating raised bumps on the drywall surface. To correct this issue:
-
The loose fastener is removed and replaced with a new drywall screw in a slightly different location.
-
The affected area is patched, sanded, and repainted to restore a smooth finish.
Water Damage and Stains
Water stains or soft spots indicate moisture damage. If left unaddressed, this can lead to mould growth and structural deterioration. Professional repair involves:
-
Identifying and resolving the source of moisture.
-
Removing and replacing damaged drywall sections.
-
Treating the area with a mould-resistant primer before repainting.
Peeling or Bubbling Paint
Improper priming, excessive moisture, or poor-quality paint can cause bubbling or peeling on drywall surfaces. The repair process includes:
-
Scraping away the damaged paint.
-
Sanding and priming the area.
-
Applying high-quality paint for a durable finish.

How to Tell If Your Drywall Needs Repair: Signs to Look For
Identifying drywall issues early helps prevent extensive damage and costly repairs. The following signs indicate the need for professional drywall services:
Visible Cracks and Holes
Cracks along seams, near doors and windows, or in ceilings can indicate structural movement. Holes from accidental impacts should be repaired promptly to maintain wall integrity.
Soft or Discoloured Patches
Soft spots and discolouration often point to water damage. If these signs are present, it is essential to investigate the source of moisture and arrange for repairs immediately.
Sagging or Bulging Walls
The drywall should remain flat and firm. Any sagging or bulging suggests underlying moisture damage or improper installation. A professional assessment is recommended to determine the cause and appropriate solution.
Persistent Musty Odours
A musty smell may indicate mould growth behind drywall, often caused by hidden leaks. If this occurs, professional intervention is necessary to prevent health risks and further damage.
Uneven or Textured Surfaces
Bumps, ridges, or bubbling paint indicate poor previous repairs, improper finishing, or underlying moisture issues. Experienced drywall contractors should correct these for a smooth, professional appearance.

A Master of Their Craft
Lloyd is a master at his craft. Whether you are looking for new plaster work or replicated original finishes he is the man for the job. He did extensive work for me in my mid-century heritage home and I would not hesitate to recommend him.

Expert Installation
I've had the pleasure of having Lloyd and his crew work on an extensive project for me last year. A 1920's home with a mix of old lathe and plaster along with new drywall, was all expertly installed.
Lloyd is a gold 'ole guy that has been in the trade for a good amount of time. His expert advice, craftsmanship and good old fashion care made the project run smoothly and the end result was perfect.
I will continue to call on Lloyd for projects coming up and look forward to working with him and the team

Extremely Knowledgeable
Lloyd and his team helped us refresh and repair shabby 100+ years old lath and plaster walls and ceilings. He also helped detail some aging wainscotting and a stairway. Lloyd is extremely knowledgeable, easy to talk with and happy to provide advice.
Lloyd and team are master plasterers using modern techniques and deep knowledge of traditional wall and ceiling systems to produce great results. Their eye for detail is amazing, combined with dustless sanding and through clean up we were left with pristine walls and ceilings, pre-coated and ready for paint; they are stronger and straighter than ever.
We have recommended Lloyd to our friends and would not hesitate to do so again.

Great Job
Lloyd did a really great job drywalling our house. He has decades of experience and it shows. He spent a lot of time ensuring seams were invisible and ceilings were smooth, and we are very happy with the results. There were some minor scratches and dents to fix during painting, but they were minor. The drywall job took much longer than expected though, and we had to provide our own heat and fans to dry the mud. We would definitely recommend Lloyd to others.
